The mission of the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and the UN Fact-Finding Committee on Iran was extended

The member states of the United Nations Human Rights Council on Thursday, April 4, 2024, by passing a resolution, extended the mission of the special human rights rapporteur of this organization on Iran and the fact-finding committee of the United Nations simultaneously for another year.

At its 55th session in Geneva, the Human Rights Council voted on the draft resolution on the situation of human rights in Iran, which was finally approved with 24 positive votes, eight negative votes, and 15 abstentions.
24 countries voted in favor of this resolution and eight countries voted against it.

Albania, Argentina, Belgium, Benin, Bulgaria, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Finland, France, Gambia, Germany, Honduras, Japan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malawi, Montenegro, Morocco, Netherlands, Paraguay, Romania, Somalia and America. They voted in favor of this resolution.

Vietnam, Sudan, Indonesia, Eritrea, Cuba, China, Burundi and Algeria voted against this resolution and the countries of Bangladesh, Brazil, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, India, Ghana, Georgia, Malaysia, Maldives, Qatar, Africa South and the United Arab Emirates abstained from this resolution.
The International Independent Fact-Finding Committee was formed following the killing of Mehsa (Zina) Amini in the custody of the Irshad Patrol, and by collecting and preserving the documents and identifying the suspects of human rights violations, it has taken serious steps in order to answer the perpetrators of the crimes.

This committee, which was commissioned by the United Nations Human Rights Council to prepare this report on Iran in March 2023, in a report called "institutionalized discrimination against women and girls" in Iran means "violation of human rights and crime against humanity in the context of recent protests".
