Hana: On Saturday morning, January 7, 2023, Mohammad Mehdi Karami from Bijar and Mohammad Hosseini, who were arrested on the charge of murdering a Basiji member during nationwide protests, were executed in Karaj Central Prison.
The execution of the two citizens comes after Mohammad Hosseini's defense lawyer, Ali Sharifzadeh, posted a story on his Twitter account: "I met Seyed Mohammad Hosseini in Karaj prison. His narration was full of tears. From torture, beatings with eyes, hands and feet tied to kicks in the head and unconsciousness, from iron rods to the soles of the feet and shocks in different parts of the body, a man whose confessions were under torture and has no legal basis."
Also, the defense lawyer Mohammad Mehdi Karami stated; Since Wednesday, January 4th, his client has started a "dry food strike" in Karaj Central Penitentiary in protest of not being allowed to have an optional lawyer.
These two citizens were arrested in connection with the murder of a Basiji soldier named Ruhullah Ajamian during the protests in Karaj city.
Including the execution of these two citizens, 4 people have been executed so far in connection with the protests which is known as the Zhina movement, and dozens of other citizens have been sentenced to death.
