The Brutal Killing of a Kurdish Tradesman by Government Forces
02:23 - 18/12/2024
The Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, a Kurdish tradesman identified as “Damavand Mirzaei,” married and a resident of the village of “Tefin” in Kamyaran County, was fatally shot by government forces inside his personal vehicle. Subsequently, due to the severity of his injuries, he passed away in a hospital in Tehran.
According to Hana’s preliminary investigations, government forces, without adhering to the firearm usage regulations outlined in the Law on the Use of Weapons, opened fire on this Kurdish tradesman’s vehicle on the Hamedan-Saveh road, merely on suspicion of carrying smuggled goods. This attack left Damavand Mirzaei in a coma. As of the time of this report, authorities have not handed over his body to his family.
It is worth noting that government forces in Kurdistan’s cities and the surrounding regions frequently justify their actions with baseless security pretexts. They often disregard firearm usage regulations, even under the Islamic Republic’s own laws. Kurdish citizens are routinely subjected to indiscriminate shootings by government forces. The families of victims seeking justice often face denial and negligence from the judiciary, fostering impunity and a lack of accountability for government agents.
