Colleagues from the Hana Human Rights Organization in Baneh reported that Sherko Maroofi has been transferred to solitary confinement in Sanandaj Prison for the execution of his death sentence.
According to this report, on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, Sherko Maroofi, a resident of the village Shoy in the central district of Baneh County, who was arrested seven years ago on charges of “premeditated murder” and sentenced to death by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic, was transferred to solitary confinement in Sanandaj Central Prison for the execution of his death sentence.
Hana has learned that Sanandaj Prison officials informed the family of this prisoner that the execution would be carried out on Thursday, November 7, 2024.
It is also noted that on Monday, November 4, 2024, Sherko Maroofi’s family had their final visit with him.
Hana condemns the irreversible death penalty, which takes away a person’s life, as inhumane under all circumstances of time and place, emphasizing that the right to life is fundamental to all other human rights.
