Hana has learned that Azad Abbasi, a political prisoner serving his sentence in Qorveh Prison, was assaulted in two separate incidents on November 19, 2024, by several ordinary prisoners instigated by the prison ward chief.
In the first incident, the prison ward chief, along with several prisoners, physically assaulted Azad Abbasi. Following this attack, Mr. Abbasi requested prison officials to investigate the matter and review the surveillance footage.
However, upon his return to the ward, Mr. Abbasi was attacked a second time. This time, he was assaulted with sharp objects, and instigated prisoners poured boiling water on him by breaking a thermos, causing localized burns.
Azad Abbasi, a civil and political activist, has been arrested multiple times over the years, faced several unjust sentences handed down by the Revolutionary Court. During the “Woman, life, Freedom” movement, he was abducted and, after three months in solitary custody and in Sanandaj Prison, he was sentenced to six years and four months in prison.
The Hana Human Rights Organization, expressing concern about the situation of Azad Abbasi, holds the prison authorities and the Qorveh prosecutor responsible for ensuring his life and health.
