A soldier from Salmas has attempted suicide

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Friday, November 1, 2024, a soldier identified as Kaveh Tamorzadeh, son of Bakhtiar, from the village of Delezi in the Shapiran area of Salmas County, ended his life by suicide.

According to received reports, the individual in question was serving his mandatory military service at a law enforcement center. He had gone on leave when, for unknown reasons, he took his own life.

Military service is mandatory for men over the age of 18 in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Without a completion card for military service, citizens are deprived of essential documentation and services, including a passport, business licenses, and eligibility for government employment.

Due to the unstable economy, lack of job opportunities and security, low standards of living, and a lack of hope for the future, numerous mental health issues have deeply affected society. This situation has led to frequent collective protests, civil disobedience, and, particularly, cases of suicide in Kurdistan and other cities across Iran’s political geography.
