According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, in late July of this year, the 39-year-old Kurdish political prisoner, Hamid Hosseinnejad Heydranlu, married and father of three children from the village of Segrik in the Chaldoran district, was sentenced to death by the first branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Orumiyeh, presided over by Judge Najafzadeh. He was convicted of "rebellion" through membership in the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
It is worth noting that on April 12, 2023, Hamid Hosseinnejad Heydranlu, along with several other Afghan citizens, was arrested by border guards at the Chaldoran border and transferred to the Chaldoran Border Guard Detention Center. He was interrogated there for several hours, and although his detention was converted to bail, the bail was not accepted due to a warrant requested by the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Consequently, he was transferred to the Orumiyeh Intelligence Detention Center.
It is important to mention that he was held at the Intelligence Detention Center for 11 months and 10 days, where he was subjected to severe physical and psychological torture to force a confession regarding his involvement in an armed conflict between Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) forces and border guards, which led to the deaths of eight border guards.
This Kurdish political prisoner was tortured for eight months to make a forced confession, and even by an individual named Estiri, who was in charge of investigating the case. Under severe torture, he was forced to confess and, despite lacking sufficient literacy, was coerced into signing documents that the security interrogators had prepared in advance.
Currently, this political prisoner is held in Ward 2 of Orumiyeh Central Prison. He has appealed the issued sentence, and his case has been sent to the Supreme Court. During his eight months of detention, he was only able to make two short phone calls to his family and has been denied access to a lawyer or family visits.
