Hana’s concern over the continued enforced disappearance of Kurdish citizen “Osman Mameh”
03:41 - 27/10/2024
Hana Human Rights Organization: After 709 days since the arrest of 55-year-old Osman Mameh, a citizen from Bukan, during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests, government authorities continue to refuse to acknowledge responsibility for his detention and have provided no information regarding his status.
Osman Mameh, son of Hassan, married and a resident of Bukan, was arrested by an unidentified security agency on November 18, 2022, during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” revolutionary movement. He was detained after leaving his home in Bukan and was taken to an undisclosed location.
In Hana’s investigation into the latest situation regarding the enforced disappearance of this citizen, a source close to the family stated: “Over the past two years, Osman’s family has approached all judicial and security institutions in Bukan and Tehran, but to no avail, as all these institutions claim ignorance regarding his detention.”
According to the Code of Criminal Procedure, in such cases, the local prosecutor is responsible for responding to the family and must issue appropriate orders to security agencies to clarify Osman Mameh’s legal status. However, despite repeated visits, the Bukan Prosecutor’s Office has not provided any response to Mameh’s family.
Expressing serious concern and in accordance with Article 2 of the Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, Hana accuses the Iranian government of kidnapping and forcibly disappearing Osman Mameh. Hana demands that the Islamic Republic of Iran respond to this situation and calls for immediate access to legal representation, health services, and other legal support for Mameh and his family.
