Zhina Modares Gorji was summoned to serve her 16-month prison sentence

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, Zhina Modares Gorji, a women’s rights activist from Sanandaj, has been summoned to the Fourth Branch of Criminal Enforcement in Sanandaj to serve her 16-month prison sentence.
On her Instagram page, Zhina Modares Gorji announced that according to a notification she received on October 22, 2023, she must report to the Sanandaj Women’s Prison by Saturday, November 2, 2023, to serve her 16-month prison sentence.
Ms. Modares Gorji’s sentence was reduced in the Sanandaj Court of Appeals, where she was acquitted of “collaborating with a hostile state” and sentenced instead to one year in prison for “propaganda against the regime” and 16 months for “forming an illegal group aimed at overthrowing the regime.” This verdict was communicated to her lawyer on Wednesday, October 2, 2023. Under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, which applies in cases of multiple charges, the longest sentence—in this case, 16 months—will be enforced.
Previously, in the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, under Judge Mohammad Karami, Ms. Modares Gorji was sentenced to 10 years in prison for “forming an illegal group with the intent to overthrow the regime,” 10 years for “collaborating with hostile groups and states,” and one year for “propaganda against the regime,” with 10 years and exile to Hamedan Prison to be enforced.
