A soldier from Ravansar committed suicide.
07:30 - 24/8/2024
According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, a 19-year-old soldier named Mohammad Malekizadeh, from Ravansar, ended his life with a firearm at the Qaleh-e Nodsheh outpost while serving his mandatory military service.
It is worth noting that at least three young citizens in Ravansar County have committed suicide due to mandatory military service in the past month.
In the Islamic Republic of Iran, military service is mandatory for men over the age of 18. Without a military service completion card, citizens are deprived of basic facilities and documents, such as passports, business licenses, or the ability to work in government offices, among others. The dire economic situation, lack of jobs, job security, and the low standard of living have intertwined with the psychological and emotional challenges faced by society. This has led to daily collective protests, civil disobedience, and particularly an increase in suicides in Kurdistan and other cities within Iran's political geography.
