12 Kurdish citizens were executed in August 2024

According to statistics recorded by the Hana Human Rights Organization, at least 12 Kurdish citizens were executed in the prisons of the Islamic Republic of Iran during August 2024. The names and details of all these citizens have been confirmed and registered with Hana. The details of the crimes as presented by the Islamic Republic of Iran are as follows:

- Execution due to drug-related offenses: 6 people
- Execution due to intentional murder: 5 people
- Execution due to "moharebeh" (waging war against God) and political crimes: 1 person

Reza Rasaei, a 34-year-old Kurdish man and a follower of the Yarsan faith, who had been arrested during the 2022 protests in Sahneh, Kermanshah, was executed at dawn on Tuesday, August 6, on the charge of killing a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. He was executed without a fair trial, and his confession was extracted under torture.

It should be noted that at least 100 people were executed in Iran in August, including 11 Afghan citizens, 8 Baluch citizens, and 12 Kurdish citizens.

The Hana Human Rights Organization considers executions to be government-sanctioned killings and a heinous and inhumane act. It calls for an immediate halt to the death sentences in Iran. The Islamic Republic has accelerated its execution machine in an attempt to create an atmosphere of fear and suppress popular protests. The people of Iran, human rights organizations, and the international community must, through protest campaigns, condemnation, and political pressure, raise the cost of these government-sanctioned killings for the Islamic Republic.
