Tragic Loss for Refugees on World Refugee Day

On the eve of World Refugee Day, the world is confronted with yet another heart-wrenching tragedy as refugees drown in the Mediterranean. Italian coast guard officials and UN agencies announced on Monday that two boats carrying asylum seekers sank in separate incidents, resulting in the feared deaths of 66 people, including 26 children. The refugees were from Iran, Syria, and Kurdistan, seeking safety and a better life.
This latest disaster highlights the ongoing and devastating reality faced by refugees. According to United Nations data, since 2014, over 23,500 migrants have died or gone missing in the Mediterranean.
