Confirmation of the Death Sentence for Mamosta Mohammad Khzernezhad by the Supreme Court

According to Hana's colleagues, the death sentence and 16 years of imprisonment for Sunni Kurdish cleric Mamosta Mohammad Khzernezhad have been upheld by Branch 41 of the Supreme Court, presided over by Judge Ali Razini.


On December 20, 2023, Mamosta Khodarnezhad was sentenced to 16 years in prison and death by Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court of Orumieh, presided over by Judge Reza Najafzadeh, on charges of "acting against national security by undermining the sovereignty and independence of the country, corruption on earth, and propaganda against the regime."

The last court session for Mamosta Mohammad Khzernezhad was held in November of this year in four brief sessions via video conference, without the right to access a lawyer.

Mamosta Mohammad Khzernezhad was subjected to severe physical and psychological torture for three and a half months in solitary confinement at the Urmia Intelligence Detention Center to extract forced confessions against himself.

This Kurdish cleric was arrested along with his son Yaser on November 19, 2022, by intelligence forces in Bukan and transferred to the Orumieh Intelligence Office for interrogation. After completing the interrogation process, he was transferred to Orumieh Prison.

The arrest of Mamosta Mohammad Khzernezhad following his speech at a memorial ceremony for Asad Rahimi, one of the casualties of the revolutionary uprising "Woman, Life, Freedom" in the city of Bukan.
