Alireza Jalilian, Kurdish Asylum Seeker, at Risk of Deportation from Turkey

According to received reports, Alireza Jalilian, a 41-year-old married father of a daughter and a Kurdish asylum seeker from Kuhdasht, Lorestan, has been sentenced to death in a show trial by the Islamic Republic of Iran on charges of murdering a "police chief" in Eslamabad-e Gharb. Following this, he was forced to flee Iran, arriving in Turkey, where he subsequently applied for asylum.

The Iranian government, through Interpol, has requested Mr. Jalilian's extradition. Yesterday, after three years of residing in a camp in Turkey, he was transferred to a camp in Van for deportation to Iran.

On Thursday, May 30, 2024, in an audio file, Mr. Jalilian announced the efforts to return him to Iran, stating that to prevent his extradition, he attempted suicide and is now in poor health. In this audio file, Alireza Jalilian denies any involvement in the murder of the Iranian police officer and appeals to human rights organizations and activists to help save him from the captivity of Turkish camps and the danger of deportation and execution in Iran.
