Statistics of human rights situation in January 2023, in Kurdistan of Iran

Hana: Hana Human Rights Organization Statistics Center publishes its statistical report on the human rights situation and the violation of fundamental rights of Kurdish citizens in January 2023 in Iranian Kurdistan.

(Wherever the name of Kurdistan is mentioned, it means the provinces of Kermanshah, Ilam, Sanandaj (Kurdistan), Urmia (West Azerbaijan) included, but all the efforts of Hana Human Rights Organization counterparts in the country are in this direction to ensure that the utmost accuracy is done regarding adding the news and verifying the published items.

Based on the information registered in the statistics center of Hana Human Rights Organization, during the past month, at least 199 Kurdish citizens have been arrested, 3 people have been killed, 16 people have been executed in this month, 4 Kolbers have been killed and wounded, a worker had an accident while working and died, at least 3 people committed suicide and 2 women were were killed.

Arrests:

In January 2023, at least 199 Kurdish citizens were arrested by the security institutions of the Islamic Republic of Iran arbitrarily and without any arrest order from the court.

The identities of all these people have been verified by Hana Human Rights Organization, and most of them have been arrested on charges of political activities, participation in demonstrations, cooperation with Kurdish opposition parties of the Islamic Republic, and civil activities. According to these statistics, 11 of the arrested are women and 24 are children and teenagers under 18 years old. According to these reports, 3 protestors of the current revolution in Iran were also killed by the Islamic Republic.

Executions:

According to Hana statistics, in January 2023, a Kurdish citizen named Mohammad Mehdi Karmi was executed in Qezel Hesar Karaj prison on charge of bandit (mohariba). In this month, 15 other Kurdish citizens were executed in the prisons of the Islamic Republic of which 11 people were executed for drug-related crimes and 4 people were executed for intentional murder.

Also, a prisoner was killed in a suspicious manner in Urmia prison.

Children:

In January 2023, 24 children were arrested by government forces.

Kolbers (piggy backs):

Based on Hana's statistics, in January 2023, 4 Kolbers were killed and injured. The two of them were killed and 2 others were injured.

Women:

In January 2023, at least 11 women were arrested by government forces.

Also, 2 women were killed, one of them was set on fire by her ex-husband and the second one was set on fire by an unknown person and finally died.

Suicide:

Based on the statistics recorded in the Hana Statistics Center in January, 3 people committed suicide in the cities and villages of Kurdistan. Two of these people were men and one was a woman. These suicides were due to livelihood reasons and family disputes.

Workers:

According to the statistics recorded in the Hana statistics center in January, one worker died due to a work accident.
