Hana: According to received reports, the Kurdish political prisoner Nayeb Asgari’s death sentence was commuted to 15 years of imprisonment and a monetary fine following an appeal against the court’s ruling.
Nayeb Asgari, 48, from Orumiyeh, was a member of the Free Life Party (PJAK). After leaving the group, he returned to Iran on March 19, 2021, in coordination with the IRGC, intending to surrender.
Upon his return, he went to the IRGC Intelligence in Orumiyeh on April 23, 2021, to address his case but was subsequently arrested and tortured. After two years of detention and uncertainty, he was sentenced in absentia on charges of “moharebeh” (waging war against God) by the Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh during an opaque and unjust trial.
