Statement of Over One Hundred Civil Activists in Support of Verisha Moradi, Urging an End to Her Hunger Strike for Continuing Civil and Justice-Seeking Struggles
Two weeks have passed since Verisha Moradi began her hunger strike. For two weeks, she has bravely and courageously raised her voice in protest against the unjust death sentences imposed on many citizens. In this critical and significant moment, we stand in solidarity with Verisha Moradi as part of a community that believes in justice, freedom, and human rights. Verisha symbolizes civil resistance and steadfastness, having demonstrated her objection to oppression, inequality, and the increasing unfair death sentences through her hunger strike in recent weeks.
Her hunger strike is not only a symbol of unwavering resolve against oppression but also a powerful cry for justice and resistance that resonates worldwide. We fully understand the harsh and challenging circumstances she has endured and the risky and costly decision she made to protest these injustices.
However, today, as her companions on this journey, we ask her to end her hunger strike. Her fight is reflected not only in this current protest but in all her past activities and efforts. She is a figure that our society needs to continue its rightful civil struggles; she is a representative of all those who yearn for a free and just society.
We by no means intend to disregard the significance and meaning of her protest; rather, we consider her action an essential step on the path of civil resistance. As Verisha Moradi has consistently emphasized the role of society and the participation of activists, we now, more than ever, need her presence and strength to continue the journey. Civil resistance requires energy, endurance, and perseverance, as this is a long and challenging struggle.
We ask her to end her hunger strike, giving us and others the chance to continue the fight for freedom and justice alongside her, with all our strength and resources. Nothing should be more valuable than human life, and we need her to be fully present, not only at this moment but throughout the path of resistance.
In this regard, we, a group of activists aligned with all freedom-loving forces, have decided, in honor of her brave efforts and resistance, and as a symbol of solidarity and support, to go on a hunger strike on Saturday, October 26. Although this act is symbolic and modest compared to larger protest movements, it represents a meaningful step in supporting her and broader civil movements. This action illustrates our solidarity with Verisha and all those striving for justice and freedom. However, we ask her to end her hunger strike after this day, as civil and protest movements have a long and complex path ahead, and we need the ongoing presence of activists to navigate this journey.
In complete unity with Verisha Moradi’s protest and opposition to the death sentence, we believe that such inhumane sentences, which unjustly endanger human lives, can only be halted through solidarity, collective protest, and individual civil actions. Each of us must, in our own way, be the voice of this protest and persist in the pursuit of justice and defense of human rights.
