Kurdish Political Prisoner Isa Ebrahimzadeh Attempts Suicide

According to reports from colleagues at the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Friday, July 19, 2024, Kurdish political prisoner Isa Ebrahimzadeh attempted suicide by ingesting poison due to the refusal of his leave extension request.

Isa Ebrahimzadeh, approximately 40 years old, is from the village of Deshms, near Oshnavieh. He is married and the father of two children.

A well-informed source reported that Ebrahimzadeh was on a five-day leave and requested an extension due to his child's heart condition. The prison authorities denied this request, leading him to attempt suicide by ingesting pills.

According to the source, Mr. Ebrahimzadeh was transferred to Taleghani Hospital in Urmia, where he is currently in the intensive care unit.

This Kurdish political prisoner and labor activist was arrested by security forces on December 21, 2022, during the #Jina revolutionary movement. He was temporarily released on bail of 500 million tomans on January 12, 2023, pending the completion of judicial proceedings.

On Wednesday, February 22, 2023, the Oshnavieh Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Mehdi Rezaei, sentenced him to five years in prison on charges of "participating in protests, propaganda against the regime, and collaborating with one of the Kurdish opposition parties." Three years of his sentence are enforceable. Isa Ebrahimzadeh was re-arrested by security forces at his home on Monday, March 6, 2023, and subsequently transferred to Naqadeh Central Prison to serve his sentence.
