According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Thursday, October 3, 2024, Mamosta Mohammad Khezrnejad, a Sunni Kurdish cleric, was transferred from Orumiyeh Central Prison to Sanandaj Central Prison.

According to received reports, Mamosta Khezrnejad informed his family during a brief phone call about his transfer from Orumiyeh Prison to Sanandaj Prison.

A source stated that, in recent months, Mamosta Mohammad Khezrnejad had requested his transfer to the central prison in Sanandaj due to his family’s residence in that city.

This Kurdish cleric had gone on a hunger strike on September 11, 2024, in protest against the unfair handling of his case while at Darya Orumiyeh Prison. He ended his hunger strike after receiving assurances from security interrogators that his requests would be considered and he would be transferred to Sanandaj Central Prison.

The death sentence for Mamosta “Mohammad Khezrnejad,” a Sunni Kurdish cleric, which had been confirmed by Branch 41 of the Supreme Court under the presidency of Judge “Ali Razini,” was revoked and replaced with a reduced prison sentence. Mamosta Khezrnejad was sentenced to 16 years in prison and death by Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court in Orumiyeh, presided over by Judge “Reza Najafzadeh,” on charges of “acting against national security by undermining the integrity and independence of the country, corruption on earth, and propaganda against the regime” on December 20, 2024.

The last court session for Mamosta Mohammad Khezrnejad was held in November 2024 in four short video conference sessions without the right to legal representation. He was subjected to severe physical and psychological torture for three and a half months in solitary confinement at the Orumiyeh Intelligence Department to extract forced confessions against himself.

This Kurdish cleric was arrested on November 19, 2022, along with his son Yaser, by the intelligence forces in Bukan and was transferred for interrogation to the Orumiyeh Intelligence Department before being moved to Orumiyeh Prison after the completion of the interrogation. His arrest occurred following a speech at a memorial for Asad Rahimi, a victim of the “Women, Life, Freedom” revolutionary movement in Bukan.
