According to Hana colleagues, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, Mojgan Kavousi, a resident of Kalardasht in Mazandaran province, was released from Tonekabon Prison.

Mojgan Kavousi, in a video statement, announced that her sentence, which had previously been converted to open prison status and allowed her to spend the remainder of her prison term outside Tonekabon prison, has now come to an end.

After the Supreme Court's 39th Branch accepted her request for a retrial and referred her case to the 2nd Branch of the Sari Revolutionary Court, her sentence was reduced to 12 months of imprisonment. The retrial request for this political prisoner was filed by her lawyers, Maziyar Tataei and Osman Mozayen, and was accepted by the Supreme Court on Saturday, June 22, 2024. After referring her case to the 2nd Branch of the Sari Revolutionary Court, based on the ruling issued on August 11, 2024, Mojgan Kavousi’s sentence was converted to 12 months of imprisonment. She had been serving the remainder of her sentence outside of prison under open prison status since June 15, 2024.

She had been charged by the Islamic Republic's judicial system with "corruption on earth, insulting the leader of the Islamic Republic, spreading lies, propaganda against the regime, inciting violence, and disturbing national security." Her trial took place on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, in the 1st Branch of the Sari Revolutionary Court, attended by her two lawyers, Osman Mozayen and Maziyar Tataei. She was acquitted of the "corruption on earth" charge but was sentenced to 39 months in prison for "conspiracy against national security," 15 months and one day for "insulting Khamenei," and 8 months for "propaganda against the regime."
