Mamosta Khezr Nejad believes that the manner of his arrest, detention, and handling of his case has been unjust and that his trial should be conducted in a special court for clerics.

The death sentence for Mamosta Mohammad Khezr Nejad, a Kurdish Sunni cleric, which had been confirmed by Branch 41 of the Supreme Court under Judge Ali Razini, was overturned by the Supreme Court and converted to imprisonment with a reduction of one degree.

On December 20, 2023, Mamosta  Khezr Nejad was sentenced to 16 years in prison and execution by Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh, presided over by Judge Reza Najafzadeh, on charges of "actions against national security by damaging the country's territorial integrity, corruption on earth, and propaganda against the regime."

The final court session for Mamosta Mohammad Khezr Nejad was held in November 2024 in four short video conference sessions without access to a lawyer.

Mamosta Khezr Nejad was subjected to severe physical and psychological torture for three and a half months in solitary confinement at the Orumiyeh Intelligence Agency detention center to force confessions against himself.

During the "Woman, Life, Freedom" revolutionary movement, Mamosta Mohammad Khezr Nejad and his son Yasser were arrested by the Intelligence Agency forces of Bukan on November 19, 2022. They were transferred to the Orumiyeh Intelligence Agency for interrogation and later moved to Orumiyeh Prison after the interrogation process was completed. His arrest followed a speech at a memorial ceremony for Asad Rahimi, a victim of the "Woman, Life, Freedom" revolutionary movement in Bukan.
