Shahram Kazemian, a Kurdish political prisoner, was released from Orumieh Central Prison.

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Thursday afternoon, July 18, 2024, Kurdish political prisoner Shahram Kazemian, son of Fars and a resident of Orumieh, was freed from Orumieh Central Prison after completing his sentence.

Mr. Kazemian was arrested by security forces in Orumieh in early November 2022 and transferred to Orumieh Central Prison to serve his sentence.

In March 2021, Shahram Kazemian was sentenced to five years of imprisonment by Branch Two of the Revolutionary Court in Orumieh on charges of "collaborating with Kurdish opposition parties against the Iranian government," a sentence that was later upheld by the Court of Appeals.

It is noteworthy that on February 1, 2020, Kazemian was arrested by security forces in Orumieh and transferred to a security detention center for interrogation. After one month of interrogation, he was moved to Orumieh Prison and was temporarily released on April 4, 2021, after posting a bail of 500 million tomans.
