Statistical Report on Human Rights Situation in June 2024 in Iranian Kurdistan

The Statistical Center of the Hana Human Rights Organization has prepared and released a statistical report on the human rights situation and fundamental rights violations of Kurdish citizens in Iranian Kurdistan for June 2024.

It is worth noting that due to the severe repression and censorship inside the country, this report may not cover all cases of human rights violations. Nevertheless, the Hana Human Rights Organization's Statistical Center has made every effort to ensure that the mentioned and recorded cases are accurate and verified.

According to the statistics recorded by the Hana Human Rights Organization's Statistical Center, in June 2024, at least 34 Kurdish citizens were arrested, 8 prisoners were sentenced to a total of 353 months in prison, 12 kolbars (border porters) and traders were killed, injured, or arrested, at least 10 workers died in workplace accidents, one citizen was killed by a landmine explosion, and at least 31 people committed suicide.

**Arrests:**
In June 2024, at least 34 Kurdish citizens were arbitrarily summoned and arrested by the security agencies of the Islamic Republic of Iran without any arrest warrants issued by the court. The identities of these 34 individuals have been verified by the Hana Human Rights Organization, most of whom were arrested on charges of political activity, collaboration with Kurdish opposition parties of the Islamic Republic, civil activities, and 7 people for religious activities. According to these statistics, all the arrested individuals are men.

**Prison Sentences:**
In June 2024, at least 8 prisoners were issued long-term prison sentences and fines, totaling 29 years and 4 months of imprisonment for these 8 prisoners. In June, one prisoner was forcibly transferred, there was one case of hunger strike, and several prisoners faced neglect of their medical problems.

**Kolbars:**
According to Hana's statistics, in June 2024, at least 12 kolbars and traders were killed, injured, or arrested. Among them, 2 individuals, Hajir Mahmoudpour and Erkan Balawasa, were killed by direct gunfire from government forces, and 8 kolbars were injured by direct gunfire from the Islamic Republic forces. The identities of all the injured have been verified by Hana. Two kolbars were arrested, and one was sentenced on charges of espionage for Israel.

**Suicides:**
In June 2024, at least 31 people in the cities and villages of Kurdistan committed suicide. Among these suicides, 18 were men and 13 were women, with one of the individuals being a child under 18 years old. These suicides were mostly due to family problems, poverty, and some for unknown reasons. According to these statistics, the number of suicides in June increased by 287% compared to the previous month.

**Workers:**
In June 2024, 10 workers died in workplace accidents, and 2 workers were sentenced to 3 years in prison.

**Landmines:**
In June, landmine explosions, remnants of the Iran-Iraq war in the border areas, and newly planted mines by the Islamic Republic in recent years continued to claim victims. In this month, one citizen was killed by a landmine explosion.

**Social Disorders:**
In June 2024, one woman and one man were murdered.

**Conclusion:**
The high rate of suicides in June is an alarm bell for society. This tragic phenomenon indicates serious problems in the community, including the lack of basic living facilities, economic, social, and cultural pressures, and the absence of psychological and physical security. These factors have collectively created conditions that drive individuals toward desperate actions such as suicide.

These statistics highlight the urgent need for attention and serious action in economic, social, and health areas in the Kurdish provinces. The government and non-governmental organizations must create supportive and counseling programs to improve living conditions for the people in this region and prevent such tragic incidents.
