Marivan; Barzan Mohammadi released from prison

Hana; On Saturday, August 13, 2022, a Kurdish citizen with the identity of "Barzan Mohammadi", a political prisoner from Sarovabad city, was released from Marivan prison after 15 months of imprisonment.

 

Barzan Mohammadi was arrested in June 2021 by Iran's security forces and then sentenced to 22 months and 17 days in prison by the Revolutionary Court in Marivan presided over by judge "Ruzbeh Behboodi" on charges of "insulting the leader of the Islamic Republic and propagandizing against the regime". On Monday, June 7, 2022, the security forces arrested this citizen in his brother's house in "Goshkhani" village, Sarvaabad, without a court order, and on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, from the IRGC intelligence detention center in Sarovabad city. He was transferred to Marivan prison. He was also sentenced to 6 years in prison in August 2017 on the charge of "activities in cyber space against the regime", which was finally reduced to 3 years and 6 months by the appeals court. This Kurdish activist had previously joined the "No to the Islamic Republic" campaign. On Monday, June 8, 2020, Barzan Mohammadi was released from Evin prison after serving more than half of his sentence.
